Brown Dog Jerky was started back in 2006 at my wife's all-natural pet supply store, Colorado Canines in Boulder, Colorado (incidentally, this is where we first met, I was a frequent customer) . When I finally hopped on board full time, we soon realized that we needed an in house treat, so when we expanded the store we put in a small kitchen for me to make my treats.

I set out to make a 100% all-natural, all meat jerky treat for dogs, using only the best human grade ingredients I could find with no fillers, by-products or artificial anything. In search of the perfect protein source and one that was low in fat and high in omegas, I came across bison. I also wanted to create a treat to compliment the raw food diet that so many people were turning to for their dogs because of various reasons, including allergies, as with our dogs. It turns out that one of the top causes for allergies in dogs and cats is protein source, along with hard to digest grains and wheat, so making flour based biscuit treats was out of the question, besides, dogs like meat better anyways, just ask!

I am now making elk jerky as well. Bison and elk are great alternative protein sources for dogs or cats that may have allergies to some of the other mass produced proteins such as poultry or lamb. I can assure you, your dog or cat doesn't have to have allergies to enjoy my all meat treats, they also make a great training treat for puppies or for older dogs that do well with a softer treat or that picky eater or just a great all around treat.

I started Brown Dog Jerky by making and bagging each small batch by hand and quickly found that my jerky treats had a loyal following with many of our customer's dogs near and far.
